LIFT INNOVATIONS: WHAT’S TO COME IN 2018?

As another year passes and we enter 2018, we’re looking forward to seeing what 2018 has in store for lift design, innovation and architecture. With every New Year, we see more advanced technology driving innovation forward as well as new interior trends which will affect the way we decorate our homes and places of work, therefore the choices we make for home lifts and commercial lifts.

So, let’s take a look at what we can expect to see in 2018.

New Year 2017 Change to 2018

The Future of Lift Technology

We have previously spoken about the future of elevator technology, and the biggest innovation that we expect to see is the technology that will allow lifts to move in different ways. As we build taller and grander structures, it is important that the technology behind our lifts keeps up the pace and is able to evolve at the same time.

The Maglev elevator looks set to offer the technology needed to continue building upwards as it would use magnetic levitation technology. While it may sound like something conjured up by a science fiction writer, it is very much a reality as this technology is currently in use around the world, most notably used by the Shanghai Maglev Train, the fastest commercial high-speed electric train in the world.

This concept would allow for elevators to move free of cables and in all directions, allowing for multiple cabins to use one shaft at a time. While this may not come to fruition in 2018, it is certain that the technology behind it will be advanced in preparation for a future with these innovative lifts.

New Year, New Look

The interior design trends of 2018 are sure to drive the designs and looks we see in our lift installation projects this year.

This will be a year for luxury in design, giving us an art deco look reminiscent of The Great Gatsby. This trend will deliver lavish cabin finishes that turn elevator travel into a luxurious experience. This trend will make us forget about the simplicity and minimalism of 2017 as we enter a trend that calls for metallics, bold colours and tones, and luxury features.

Other trends involve mixing materials such as wood and metal, something which we may well see in the design of our lift installations. As lifts can be customised to the requirements of the customer, the look can reflect this trend mixing wood effect panels with stainless steel doors, for example. Whatever look you wish to create, we can help to make it a reality.
