Axess 2 install two passenger lifts at the The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield
The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports children with life limiting conditions and their families. The charity was established more than 12 years ago as a result of the challenges of a mother whose son became very ill and needed specialist care. She became frustrated and concerned at the lack of local support, and set about changing this.
12 years on The Forget Me Not Children’s charity is going from strength to strength, with the introduction of the hospice at home service in 2010 and the construction of a brand new purpose-built children’s hospice in Huddersfield in 2012.
Meeting the requirements –
Axess 2 were approached in early 2011 by Huddersfield based Marshall Building Contractors. For this project, Marshall’s required two hydraulic passenger lifts and Axess 2 offered the ideal solution with the FlexyLift product. Moving swiftly between the two storeys, they combine a range of features and finishes to complement the new building. Importantly, the passenger lifts delivered the required design flexibility and performance whilst meeting the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, all within budget.
The first lift, situated in the main building is the larger of the two passenger lifts with a 2000kg (26 person) load capacity. The 1400mm x 2600mm lift cabin was finished in satin stainless steel and incorporated glass panels on two of the cabin walls. 1200mm wide telescopic automatic doors with glazed vision panels, used on the ground and first floor landings complete the modern contemporary look. The second lift, located in the sleeping area of the hospice building travels from ground to the first floor and can carry 13 people in the1400mm x 1600mm lift cabin. The walls, ceiling and doors are all finished in satin stainless steel, complimented by a full height mirror and a durable anthracite rubber floor.
The new Hospice is due to open its doors later this year, and Axess 2 are proud to have been part of the project.
