A platform lift or a traditional lift?

The difference between a platform lift and a traditional lift

Our Answer

The main differences between platform lifts and passenger lifts are the operator controls and the speed. The push buttons on a platform lift carriage should require continuous pressure to function, a restriction that does not apply to traditional passenger lifts.

The speed of the platform lift is limited to a maximum travel speed of 0.15 metres per second, which means a typical unit will take approximately twenty seconds to travel to a height of three metres. In addition, most platform lifts do not have an enclosed cabin and must have a peripheral safety edge, which halts the platform if it encounters an object or person.

Although the A7 electric pitless lift  is categorised as a platform lift, it can be supplied with automatic sliding doors on the landing and a fully enclosed cabin with automatic doors, enabling full automatic one touch operation.
